Bethlehem, Pa. (PRWEB) January 26, 2012
Two buildings constructed with CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels from AltusGroup precasters (altusprecast.com) were recipients of American Concrete Institute (ACI) Awards and Precast Concrete Institute (PCI) Design Awards in 2011.
The $ 66 million, 340,000 square-foot, Tucker High School, Tucker, Ga., uses 210,000 sq. ft. of CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels by AltusGroup precaster, Metromont Corporation, Hiram, Ga. It was awarded first place for low-rise buildings at the Georgia Chapter ACI awards banquet in January 2011 and recipient of the PCI Design Award for Best All Precast Solution presented in September 2011.
They had the architectural finish on the outside, which contributed to a very aesthetically pleasing building. And, they had the insulation built in as a structural element, which was a really efficient use of an exterior wall system, say judges at PCI.
Panels comprise two concrete wythes separated by continuous insulation (ci), and connected by C-GRID? carbon fiber grid shear trusses. They are fully structurally composite and thermally efficient. Through their use, the facility exceeded ASHRAE 90.1 Energy Standards by 30 percent, significantly reducing operating costs without compromising aesthetics.
Construction was also completed in just 52 days since panels are manufactured off-site in a controlled factory environment and delivered for immediate erection.
AltusGroup precaster High Concrete Group LLC, Denver, Pa., also used CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels on the $ 10 million, 40,000-square-foot Indiana University Innovation Center, Bloomington, Ind. The structure won co-winner Best University Project for the 2011 PCI Design Awards.
This building was singled out for the ways that it uses precast concrete, both for its forming ability and for its ability to meet sustainability goals that perhaps other materials couldnt have met say judges at PCI.
