The Post Oak School will open the doors of its High School to the public on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. for a walk through of the newly renovated building. Dr. Jan Ott has joined the Post Oak High School teaching team as the science specialist. Dr. Ott comes to Post Oak from Chinquapin Preparatory School in Highlands, Texas, just east of Houston. She has been teaching high school and middle school science and mathematics at Chinquapin for the past two years and before that taught science and integrated studies for over 20 years at The Evergreen State College in Washington.

Dr. Ott holds a BS in Biology from Sarah Lawrence College and a PhD in Neurophysiology from the University of Southern California with a focus on the neuroplasticity of the brain. Her broad post-secondary teaching experience gives her a strong base for creating and participating in a rigorous, reality-based science curriculum that emanates from the school lab and culminates in applied student interests throughout Houstons Museum District.

With this position filled, the full-time teaching team is complete: Jeremy Grisbee, mathematics and Spanish; Dr. Jan Ott, sciences; and Dr. James Quillan, humanities.

The high school faculty team will begin planning the 201213 academic year next month in the new building, as well as continuing the work towards International Baccalaureate (IB) authorization.

The domain name of the website makes it fairly obvious what the site is selling; lawn mowers and a huge variety of them as well. With varying brand names and models on offer, there is surely something here to please everyone; unless of course you dont have any grass…

Its important for websites to target their season; for example if a website selling snow shovels promotes and advertises primarily in summer, its pretty much a lost cause. Thats why focusing all these marketing efforts on specific seasons and times of year can have huge benefits for a website. And to get you started for your first or next triathlon, here are some top tips from PSMs specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapist, Andrea Havill:

Do a brick session the most challenging part of your first triathlon is getting off the bike and running when your legs feel like bricks;

Practise getting out of the swimming pool at speed it sounds easy, but your arms will be tired after all those laps, so haul yourself out of the pool a few times after each swim;

Buy elastic laces for your trainers and practise pulling them on and off at speed surprisingly hard under pressure;

Eat well – make sure you have nutritious snacks an hour or so before you train and eat protein to aid muscle recovery within 30 minutes of your main training session;

Stay hydrated – try to consume at least two litres a day in addition to other drinks you have. In the heat, consider using electrolytes in your drink while training;

Have a massage – give yourself a treat for all that hard work but, more importantly, this will help with muscle recovery and prevent injuries caused by tight muscles;

Stretch or use a foam roller do something proactive to help prevent injury rather than waiting until you feel tight or get niggles;

Practise changing your bicycle inner tube it would be seriously bad luck to get a puncture on the day, but just in case;

Make a training plan for your last two months just so that you know you will complete all the sessions that you feel are needed, including your brick sessions, and stick to it.

Pure Sports Medicine at David Lloyd’ is a unique, sports injury practice dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries and musculoskeletal problems. It is a new concept with a state-of-the-art purpose built medical facility constructed within David Lloyd Leisure’s premium health and fitness club at Raynes Park. The facility is open to both members and non-members.
